Juicing is the fastest and tastiest way to get all those healthy vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and enzymes that our modern diets are lacking. If you are looking to lose weight then try our juicing recipes for weight loss.

They are highly nutritious, taste great and will help you shed the pounds in no time at all. In fact, many people have lost as much as 20 pounds in just two weeks of juicing!

One of the main benefits of juicing is that liquid puts very little stress on your digestive system. This means you have more energy, feel great and have a super healthy diet at the same time.

Juicing also allows you to consume much more fruit and vegetables (but be careful of putting too much fruit in your diet) than you would typically do in a regular diet. It also helps to suppress hunger pangs, which mean you can avoid succumbing to unhealthy foods that go straight to your waistline.

Can Juicing Help You Lose Weight?

In short, yes it can! There are many well documented examples, and even documentary movies, demonstrating the power of juicing to help weight loss.

Even if you are not quite ready to go extreme and commit to a full juice fast, juicing can help you lose weight and vastly improve your diet.

Here are some of the ways in which juicing helps you lose weight:

Prevents hunger

Juicing gives your body all the nutrients it needs, and then some! When your body is lacking nutrients, it makes you hungry. In this way, you will eat less and have fewer junk food cravings.

Convenience

Modern busy lifestyles cause us to make many poor diet decisions because of the convenience of fast food. Juicing takes just a few minutes and gives you fresh, delicious, healthy juice that satisfies you. This means you eat less junk food.

All Natural

Since juicing uses all natural produce, you can limit your exposure to processed foods. The chemicals and additives in such foods actively contribute to weight gain. Going natural, especially if you use organic produce, can avoid exposing you to such risks. Additionally, juicing is free from all preservatives since you control exactly what goes into each drink.1

Flavour

Most of us could do with eating more healthy vegetables. Juicing helps us get the goodness of these in a much more flavourful way than eating raw vegetables. It can also help meet you 5-a-day requirement if you aren’t doing so already.

More Energy

The goodness of juicing makes you feel and great and gives you more energy. You’ll be much more likely to go outside and do something active when you make juicing a part of your lifestyle.

Detox

Green juice full of chlorophyll is particularly detoxifying and can really help your liver and kidneys to flush out your system. Celebrities regularly go to such retreats to shed the pounds after an unhealthy spell. But you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars to reap the benefits of juicing. Now, everyone can do it from the comfort of their own home.

There are two basic approaches to losing weight by juicing:

#1 Juice Fast

This is the most extreme option and does require willpower as you are changing everything your body has previously relied on to fuel it.

It involves restricting your diet entirely to juicing.

Different juicing fasts take different approaches and you should prepare properly before embarking on these.

#2: Casual Juicing

This approach doesn’t force you to give up on all solid foods and basically allows you to juice whenever you feel like it.

By replacing some of the foods you used to eat with juicing, you can fill your body with lots of essential nutrients. You’ll have much more energy and feel a lot less hungry throughout the day.

So long as you eat a reasonable diet at the same time, you can lose a lot of weight with this method.

Fruit vs Vegetables

Generally speaking, vegetables are much better for you than fruit. Not to say that fruit is bad, but it does contain natural fructose which is a form of sugar (though a million times healthier than the high fructose corn syrup you’ll find in many soda drinks these days).

Nevertheless, fruit heavy juicing should be done in the morning or before exercise. This will help stop your body converting and storing this sugar as fat. Don’t worry if you don’t like the taste of vegetables though, it’s perfectly fine to add an apple or some lemon to into your juicer to completely hide the flavour.

The best types of vegetable to use are cruciferous vegetables. These include arugula, bok choy, broccoli, cabbage and kale. Make sure to drink more vegetable juices later in the day. Of course, you are free to add them to any juice. In fact, that is strongly encouraged.

The people who lose the most weight from juicing tend to have about 70-80% of their juicing ingredient be vegetables. These days, with modern juicers, that is easily achievable as some creative fruity ingredients can mask the taste of any vegetable.

Here’s an interesting video on the topic of juicing and weight loss.

How to Juice?

There are two types of juicers. The first are centrifugal juices that have an upright design and juice by shredding fruit and veggies into a pulp while they spin rapidly to extract the resulting liquid. These are the most common and good ones like this are relatively inexpensive for all the health benefits they provide.

The second are masticating juicers which usually have a horizontal design that crushes and squeezes the juice out of vegetables and fruit. This produces both a higher quality and quantity of juice than most centrifugal juicers. The design is also much more effective when juicing highly nutritious greens like spinach, kale and wheatgrass.

If you take your juicing seriously it’s really worth investing in a powerful masticating juicer. In the long run you’ll get much more out of it and they are also much easier to clean.

Once you’ve got a juicer you’re happy with, check out the top recipes below from our “Juicing recipes for weight loss” book to help you make some fantastically healthy juices to help burn those pounds away.

  1. Hi Andy, im just waiting for my juicer to arrive sometime today or tomorrow then i will be sure to try your recipes. i have a question, i am one of the fussiest eaters around i physically get sick eating greens, for the sake of a healthy lifestyle i eat small greens 3-5 times a week such as peas and green beans. I dont actually eat them i take them as though they were supplements so i use water to down them with no chewing. As you can now understand my pallet is rather bad anyway the question what recipe would you say is the healthiest for me if i wanted to eliminate the greens taste but still get the nutrients. Would really appreciate your help. Thanks

  2. Hey Robert,

For your tough dilemma, I have two recommendations:
    1. Make juices using strong-flavored fruits, i.e. berries, oranges, pineapple, and mango. They’ll mask most of the “green” taste.
    2. Use the vegetables with less “green” flavor, like cactus leaf, celery, and cucumber. They have less nutrients than the dark green veggies, but they’re still a good source of fiber, vitamins, minerals, etc.

    Hope that helps!

  3. Hi Andy, I have about 75 pounds to lose. I don’t know much at juicing, but have heard a lot of people are doing this. If I were to do juicing for weight loss benefits, how much a day should I do and for how long? Also, looking at some of your recipes, they contain a lot of fruit, (example, 3 apples) would that be for just one serving? Seems like a lot to me.

    Thanks for your help!

    • Hey Gina,

If you’ve got to lose 75 pounds, juicing is a good start – but you’re going to have to go through a pretty strict diet and an exercise program to get fit (see https://healthambition.com/what-is-fitness/). The downside of juicing is that it usually uses a lot of fruit – which contain plenty of sugar. For weight loss, juicing is a healthy addition when you want something cold and tasty to drink, but it’s not the best way to lose weight.
If you’re going to juice, make sure to juice as many veggies as you do fruits. The juices may not taste as good, but they’ll be healthier for you.
I’d recommend replacing one of your meals with a rich green smoothie/juice – probably dinner.
As for the quantity of fruits used to make juice, three apples makes about a cup of juice, so you’d end up getting enough from the apple to make about two servings of your mixed juice.
      Hope that helps!

    Appreciate any advice.

    • Hi Irene. I’d recommend you check with a knowledgeable health care professional before having too much juice if you’ve been diagnosed with diabetes. While there are a lot of healthy nutrients in freshly made juices, certain fruit juices in particular can be absorbed quickly. Generally vegetable juices, perhaps with the exception of carrot, are better for stable blood sugar.

    • Hi Eldora,

It sounds like you’re having a Herxheimer reaction – http://ow.ly/nM1fa

It’s something that can happen when your body is processing out too many toxins too quickly. To minimize this you could start with one of the better breakfast here for the first week – https://healthambition.com/better-breakfasts-better-day/ and have freshly made juices in the afternoon and early evening. If you feel like you are handling the juices well you could then try to have just them for a couple of days and monitor your results.

Having lots of water definitely helps process out toxins and it’s best to ease into the green juices as well. These are the most powerful cleansers but they can also have the strongest initial effects.

      Best Regards,

      Jim

    • Hi Eileen,

You’re right, apples are a very common juicing ingredient. Berries would be great with a masticating juicer but you don’t always get a lot out of cheap juicers for the price of them.

Carrots actually have a lot of natural sweetness and are full of antioxidants. I’d suggest using those instead of apples.

      Hope this helps.

  9. Hi I just got a juicer. I would like to start juicing to aid with weight loss but I don’t not want to juice only because I do not want to lose muscle and would like to stick to my tough workout schedule. How do you recommend I implement juicing into my diet??

    Reply
    • Hi Clarence,

You have to find what works best for you but the way I’d do it is to workout in the morning before breakfast after some lemon juice in water. This forces the body to use its stored energy.

Have a protein based breakfast like scrambled eggs or omelet, no bread or other grain based carbohydrates. This should fill you up for much longer than cereal and also helps build muscle while reducing bodyfat.

Have primarily vegetable based juices (apple is ok) during the day. You shouldn’t need one till lunch with a protein breakfast, then every two or preferably 3 hours is fine if needed. The more different veggies you can pack in there the more nutrition you’ll be getting which tends to negate hunger as lack of nutrients is often a big part of it. Also make sure you drink lots of water, before the juice and throughout the day.

Have a light dinner of healthy protein and mixed steamed or lightly stirfried vegetables in coconut oil (a thermogenic fat), the earlier in the evening the better.

Good sleep and relaxed days so you keep the fat storing cortisol down is very beneficial but the most important factor is avoiding processed grains. Nothing makes a bigger difference for weight loss – https://healthambition.com/cutting-carbs-lose-weight/

      Hope all this helps.

  10. Hi,

I am starting to juice tomorrow. I was told I need to Juice all 3 meals a day. Is this true? I want to lose the weight and keep it off. I am going back to the gym. I guess a downfall is i have a 9 to 5 desk job. I can only be active at night. I am excited but nervous all at the same time about some of the vegi’s i don’t like to eat. What is a good way to mask the flavor but still keep the dark green vegis in the juice?

    • Hi Tina,

Many people have success with juice fasting but for others it can be a bit much to go straight into. Try the juicing only if you like but if you want another option, when I’ve done this before I’ve started the day with a healthy protein meal, like organic scrambled eggs without bread or the very healthy omelet recipe – https://healthambition.com/ultimate-healthy-omelet-breakfast/ These kind of breakfasts are naturally fat burning since your body doesn’t have any simple carbohydrates to use and starts accessing fat stores. They also fill you up and should keep you going until the early afternoon.

For the afternoon and early evening you can have a freshly made juices. They work so well because they are providing your body with so much nutrition and lack of nutrients can be a big part of what causes hunger.

Carrot, beet, apple and if it suits the recipe pineapple are all great for masking other tastes, though to be honest even veggies you wouldn’t normally like are barely noticeable. Adding a small piece of ginger to your juices is also great for your digestive tract and therefore for weight loss.

Hope this helps and best of luck with your juicing.

I plan to substitute juice for my dinner since I work long shifts and barely have time in the morning. I heard that it is better to consume the juice within 15 minutes. That being said, do you think replacing dinner with juice help me achieve my goals. Should I be mindful of the sugars on fruits I would used? What would be best to use in this case. Just remember, that juice fasting a serious change and you need to be careful that you keep the weight off. It’s all too easy to fall back to old habits and put it all on again. 16. Hi! I am thinking about juicing not to lose weight but to get healthier. Here’s a brief layout of why.
In 2012 I was given a diagnosis of osteomyelitis in my lower left jaw. I am constantly battling infections and have to have more surgeries. I have had about 30 surgeries now with the most recent being done I’m December 2013 where they removed my lower left mandible (jaw) I am constantly take medications from pain meds to antibiotics to meds that help me use the bathroom. I have lost about 30 pounds and continue to lose. At 5’4″ and 113 pounds I can’t afford to lose more.
So my question is what should I look for in ingredients that can help me maintain weight, use the bathroom more regularly, boost my immune system and be all around more healthy while fighting this and preparing for my next surgery.

Yes, an actual juicer is a lot better than a blender as the end result is different. Blender is good for smoothies etc, but not good for juicing.

So in 7 days of straight juicing I lost 9 pounds. My goal was to lose weight but I was surprised that my sugars levels out after 3 days and I had to stop with my insulin. And yes I talked with my doctor before I started this project. I went off because of xmas and today again is my first day on trial number 2. I saw a program on utube, FAT,SICK,AND NEARLY DEAD. 24. Hi Gang! I wanted to share my success with all of you, since most of these posts are from people getting ready to start out. I started juicing about 10 weeks ago. I started off with a 7-Day juice fast (I actually went 8 days). I started out at 242lbs and am now down to 208 (34lbs)!!! It has been tough, and recently I have plateued at that weight due to the fact that I am now eating one meal per day and one snack….and I’ll be honest….I don’t always make a healthy choice. So being here and reading this, I will definitely be back on the straight and narrow. You ABSOLUTELY have to find what works for you. I am a creature of habit so I only have 3 juice recipes that I use. I drink the same 3 juices every day. It works for me. Some people need variety, so go for it. But I have to tell you all, I feel great!!! Lots of energy and lots of compliments! My wife complained a couple weeks ago that she is now having trouble sleeping….because I’m no longer SNORING!!! She’s not used to it being so quiet!! For years, I refused to get rid of nice clothes I had just because I didn’t fit in them anymore. Well now, I am wearing those clothes and having to get new ones! This is definitely a wonderful thing and I am so glad that I decided to give it a try!

    • UPDATE: It’s 3 weeks later. I am down to 201 (41lbs lost)!! I am on day 5 of a juice fast. Today has been rough, in that I desperately want to eat. But hanging in there. I have found recently that splitting each of my juices in 2 helps. So i drink juice 6 times per day. And I’m keeping up with the water intake (approx. 5 liters/day). I’ll start walking next week. And am SERIOUSLY contemplating the 30 day abs challenge. I’ll keep everyone posted.

I’ve been juicing 2 times a day and having a salad (just greens and veggies, no protein) for lunch. I’m wondering if this gets any easier?

  31. Hi, I was wondering if a blender (if not a juicer) would also be good for juice fasting. If not, could you tell me about some juicers that are a bit cheaper… Thank you.

  32. Hi there! Looks like your Power Punch recipe above is the same as the Green Drink 🙂 Surely it’s just a mistake. What are the ingredients for the Power Punch? Thanks!

  33. Hi Andy please send me the free juicer recipes as I have been piling on kilograms over the last few years. At the moment I am about 35 kg overweight. Ifeel so uncomfortable in my clothes and I realize that I have been very unfit. I had a heart attack a few months ago and realize that I have to do something to change things around. Thanks

  34. Hi!
I can’t access some of d fruits like beet, then kale, celery, parsley and others. Don’t know what else I can use to replace them. And I also don’t hv a juicer but a blender. Can’t afford one right now! Can I still use my blender??

  35. Hey fellow juicers!
I’m getting married next year & desperately want to shed the pounds & get into shape for the beach wedding. I’m not hugely overweight, I’m 6ft 2in & 16 stone & fairly broad, so it’s just my belly & chest that needs attention. I work 12hr shifts – days & nights – and my work is quite physical, so I am concerned about getting hungry whilst out on the job. I drive heavy plant machinery & usually walk around 4 miles during my shift. My goal is to lose weight but also gain more muscle, and I’m currently working out five times a week doing weights & cardio. Can any of you offer some juicing recipes that would suit my lifestyle please? Thanks in advance x
