While some people were blessed with perfect skin from young, for the vast majority of us getting perfect skin requires work – here are some of the key do’s and don’ts for perfect skin.

1. Eat Healthy

Watching your diet is crucial if you want to have healthy and radiant skin. Some of my favorite foods for good skin: chocolate, yogurt, pomegranates, acai, sunflower seeds, avocado, tomatoes, flaxseed, salmon. Stay away from processed foods and eat more fruits and vegetables, particularly those rich in Vitamin A and antioxidants.

When eating, pay attention also to potential food allergies that may cause your skin to breakout. Take note of these foods and try to avoid eating them.

2. Drink Plenty of Water

Keep your body hydrated. Drinking plenty of water on a daily basis helps clear your skin of toxins. In contrast, not drinking water will cause your skin to become dry and flaky, resulting in wrinkles. If you feel tend to feel bloated from drinking too much water, you can also drink green tea or coconut water as substitutes.

3. Wear Sunscreen Everywhere You Go

If there is one product you should never forget to put on whenever you go out, it is your sunscreen with SPF 30 or more. Ultraviolet rays of the sun can damage your skin easily without protection. Put on sunscreen whenever you go out, even if it may not be sunny outside.

4. Avoid Touching Your Face and Wash Regularly

Avoid touching your face, as your hands are most likely to come into contact with dirt. Touching your face regularly transfers the dirt to your face, resulting in acne.

Furthermore, wash your face at least two times a day to remove any dirt, bacteria or oil residue that may have built up over the course of the day.

5. Keep your Hair Off your Face

Oily hair in particular can affect your skin. Try to make sure that your hair (including your fringes and bangs) stays away from your face. If your hair is prone to oiliness, you may also need to clean your hair regularly.

6. Stop Smoking

Smoking hastens aging which results in poor skin complexion. Cigarettes have carbon monoxide and nicotine that limit the skin’s oxygen intake and slow down blood flow. Poor blood circulation prevents body nutrients from being properly absorbed, in turn leading to dry skin and wrinkles.

7. Keep the Air Indoors Clean

One factor many people forget is indoor air quality. Many of us spend at least half the day inside the house. Depending on where you live and who your neighbors are, your indoor environment may easily be polluted with volatile organic compounds, smoke, dust, pollen and other contaminants that may irritate your skin. The best remedy? Get an air purifier or some air purifying plants.

8. Get Your Beauty Sleep

Unfortunately, most of us are perpetually sleep deprived. Getting perfect skin requires a strong determination to give your body the rest it needs. Try to get at least 7 hours of sleep a day. Sleep allows your body to get rid of toxins and replace old cells, and keeps your skin from looking pale and dull the next day.

9. Remember to Remove Your Make-up

Sleeping with your make-up on degrades your skin easily. Remember to remove your make-up after you get home, and definitely before your sleep. Wash your face specifically and make sure you remove all traces of your make-up.

10. Exfoliate Your Skin Regularly

Exfoliating your skin regularly helps to scrape away dead skin cells and make your skin fresh and glowing. Make it a habit to exfoliate once a month.

11. Exercise Regularly

Exercise has numerous benefits, which includes improving skin quality. Anaerobic exercise, in particular, improves blood circulation, regulates oxygen flow, and helps lower cortisol levels. Also, remember to remove your make-up before you exercise!

12. Avoid Stress

Stress is key factor that can make your skin look old and dry, and potentially cause breakouts. In addition to exercise as noted above, you can also incorporate relaxation into your daily routine: taking a hot bath, 15 minutes to journal and write down everything you were grateful for that day, 15 minutes to meditate, practicing kindness and smiling to everyone you meet.

13. Use Natural Skin Care Products

If you need to use skin care products, make sure that the ingredients are natural and organic. This kind of products are hypoallergenic and do not cause your skin to breakout.

You should however, consult your dermatologist before you use any skin care products even if they are natural and organic. This is to make sure that you skin is getting what it needed from the products.

Getting beautiful skin is not impossible and certainly worth the effort. Do you have more tips on how to get perfect skin? Please leave us a comment.
