Have you spent this summer avoiding your favorite bikini because of dreaded stomach dimples?

Are you curious about the reason these stomach dimples appear and how I managed to remove them once and for all?

Some people believe that stomach dimples are a result of getting old. I used to be one of those people until I started asking why and think about what had really changed. I wanted to know the reason for the frustrating lumps and why they seemed to appear overnight.

These stubborn lumps and bumps are called cellulite, and they normally have nothing to do with your age. What they are related to, is your weight and skin structure. The good news is that cellulite is not only preventable, but also treatable.

What is Cellulite?

Cellulite is formed by fat getting compressed between your skin and muscles. When the fat builds up, the fibrous tissue that connects your muscle and skin pulls areas of your skin inward, while the fat pushes the skin outward. This creates a dimple or bulge effect from the uneven surface created by this friction.

Cellulite usually appears on arms, thighs and stomach areas. Cellulite can be a frustrating discovery for most of us. While it can sometimes be caused by genetics, it’s more often due to excess fat on the body.

Who Suffers from Cellulite?

A recent study by Howard Murad in his book The Cellulite Solution: A Doctor’s Program for Losing Lumps, Bumps, Dimples, and Stretch Marks found that 90% of women compared to only 10% of men suffer from cellulite.

The reasons women are more prone to cellulite are that they typically have more fat around their thighs and hips; and also have more connective tissue keeping this fat in place. Not really what you wanted to hear, huh? Don’t worry, there are several effective techniques you can use to beat cellulite.

10 Cellulite Stomach Reduction Tips

As I mentioned, the good news is that cellulite can be prevented and treated with the proper tools and tactics. Today is your lucky day because I’ve gathered 10 of my best cellulite reduction tips below for you. With these tools in hand, you won’t have to worry about the upcoming pool picnic at your friend’s house. You’ll be wearing your bikini without fear or embarrassment.

#1 Eat a Balanced Diet

The best advice I can give for actively removing and preventing cellulite is to start a healthy diet. You’ll want to include more fruits and vegetables and begin avoiding fried foods, sugary snacks and alcohol. Protein should be a core part of your diet regardless if you are vegetarian, vegan or not. Protein provides vital amino acids which are integral for combating cellulite.

When someone I know wants advice on how to start a clean diet, I usually suggest juicing. This is a great way to quickly get whole, plant-based foods into your diet without too much effort. Start with 1 glass of juice per day and increase from there to get the full amount of vitamins and nutrients you need.

Another tip is to shop only on the perimeter of the grocery store (where you’ll find produce and meats) and never ever go to the store hungry!

#2 Stay Hydrated

Drinking lots of water and staying hydrated is vital to ensure toxins are flooded out of your system. You can always know if you are hydrated by using this urine colour chart from MomsTeam. The simple rule of thumb- the clearer the urine, the more hydrated you are. I like to start my day with a huge glass of water every morning.

Recently I’ve been adding lemon to my water as well. Lemon water has a ton of amazing benefits, not just limited to cellulite improvement.

#3 Exercise

Workout routines will help reduce fat and burn calories. Make sure you don’t only focus on cardio however. You should incorporate weight training too. Weight training will strengthen the muscle’s connective tissues helping to reduce cellulite.

I suggest choosing exercises that will target your problem areas such as squats, lunges and hiking. These will attack your glutes, thighs and hamstrings, helping to eliminate cellulite from those areas more quickly. If you need some examples, check out this great cellulite-blasting routine from Prevention magazine.

#4 Skincare Cream

There are a wide variety of cellulite removal creams on the market and it can be hard to know which one to choose. My personal opinion? Aim for creams that are all-natural, organic and hydrating.

It’s also good to choose a cellulite cream that has multiple benefits such as a coffee scrub. Coffee contains antioxidants and has the added benefit of acting as an exfoliant for your skin, removing dead skin cells and helping it appear more toned and fresh.

#5 Anti-Cellulite Massages

When applying cellulite cream you should apply it in a massaging motion. Here is a complete list of anti-cellulite massage techniques you can use. In general you should be looking at getting deep tissue massage on the affected areas. This forces the cells apart resulting in a flattening effect on the most stubborn dimples.

#6 Do Yoga

Yoga is great as it improves your posture which helps lymph flow through the lymphatic channels. Kristen McGee the star behind MTV Power Yoga created a “cellulite-busting routine”that targets areas most prone to cellulite. She recommends doing this sequence of yoga moves three days a week.

#7 Vibration Training

The short burst of pressure applied by the movement of vibration training can create an anabolic effect. In layman’s terms, this means your body tries to replicate the muscle cells making the muscles stronger for next time. Lloyd Shaw has a comprehensive guide on vibration training which results in reduced cellulite.

#8 Body Wraps

Summer will be over before you know it. If you need to speed up results in order to make the most of the season, what should you do?I ’ll quickly tell you about another little trick of mine if you need some fast results. It’s called body wrapping.

While I don’t normally suggest tactics like this, I know there are lots of people looking to attend their end of summer barbeque without hiding under long pants and a shirt.

Wrapping your stomach will help specifically target that area by increasing the amount of sweat and helping to more quickly eliminate unwanted fat cells. When using wraps you can instantly hydrate and smooth the cellulite in the affected area.

Body wraps are not a solution by themselves for cellulite reduction. They can lead to misleading short term results due to water loss instead of fat reduction. If you are planning on creating a homemade body wrap you should first read the 7 commandments of homemade cellulite removing body wraps. Please be careful not to cut off circulation when using body wraps!

#9 Supplements

Increase your essential amino acids by taking supplements which can be taken via tablet or powder form. The powder comes in various flavors and can also help you increase your water intake.

#10 Stop Wearing Heels

Wearing heels deactivates your lower glute and hamstring (lower buttocks and back leg) which prevents them from working as they should. This leads to long term “dead zones” where the fat cells end up staying still and not moving on as it would if the muscles were being used as intended.

My Secret to Belly Cellulite Reduction

Consistency is key when it comes to cellulite reduction. Just like everything else in life, you need to work hard to get great results. Don’t only choose one tip above, aim for a combination to ensure the best cellulite-blasting results.
